History
Chaffee Trail Elementary opened its doors on August 20th for the 2007-2008 school year. Built on the former West Meadows Golf Course owned by the Caruso family, the school's street was named for the donor of the land, Sam Caruso. Plans are underway for building a new middle and high school on the land as well. The need for the school was based on the rapid new development in the area, and to ease overcrowding of the existing two neighborhood elementary schools.
Chaffee Trail was started as a prototype for future schools in the county through the "Schools of the Future" initiative, incorporating Apple technology throughout instruction via the use of podcasts, iphoto, garage band, and other Apple products for student projects.

Programs:
Our neighborhood school is committed to developing the whole child, and offers many programs and events to engage children in addition to our rigorous academics and innovative technology.
Upcoming programs:
*Early Act: a service club for fourth and fifth grade students, partnered with Bishop Snyder High School's Interact Club and the Westside Jacksonville Rotary Club. This is a community service club that meets bi-weekly after school.
*in2books: a reading program that pairs students with community mentors who are "epals" and write each other via email about their thoughts, reflections, and connections to the books.
Current programs:
*Art á la mode: an arts extravaganza in the spring featuring students' art work and an ice-cream social
*Winter music program: a holiday program featuring the grade levels in song and dance!
*Spelling bee
*Science fair
*TV Production Studio: students set up and run our morning news show
*Library Birthday Book Club: Students choose a new library book to donate to the library in honor of their birthday, receive a nameplate in the book, and appear on the morning news on their birthday!

Safety Patrols
Chaffee Trail Elementary counts on reliable 5th grade students to help with morning arrivals, afternoon dismissals, flag raising ceremonies, and as leaders of the school. Read on to find out how to become part of this important team!
Students, I know you have seen our school safety patrols in the hallways and some of them open your car door for you in the morning and afternoon. Have you ever wondered how you get picked to be a patrol? First you need to make all As in conduct. Second, you need to make all As and Bs in all subjects on your report card with an allowance of two Cs per nine weeks. You are not allowed to be late for school. If you are tardy a lot, you won't be considered. You can't be absent a lot, either. You have an important job to do and there are not extra patrols to take your place when you are absent.
We have a lot of fun and in June if you raise enough money, you get to go to Washington DC for 5 days! I hope something you have learned about being a patrol will make you try extra hard to become a patrol! - Mrs. Sciullo, patrol mom
